The New York State Automatic Vending Association is supporting two bills in the state legislature which, if passed, will help the vending industry survive, grow and create jobs. The legislation being supported will increase the NY state sales tax exemption for vending from $.75 to $1.00. Will you help the industry by sending an email to your state legislators today? - The New York State Automatic Vending Association supports A.7679a (Magee) / S.4280a (Valesky) which will amend the NY state tax law to exempt food and beverages sold through vending machines from New York State sales tax if the item costs $1.00 or less. Currently food and beverages that cost 75 cents or less and which are sold through vending machines are exempt from NY sales tax. Background: In 2000, the State Legislature exempted food and beverage items sold in vending machines for seventy five cents or less from New York State sales tax as a way to help the vending machine industry remain competitive with over the counter sales. Today, there are very few items sold in vending machines that cost 75 cents or less. The increases in product costs combined with the increased operating costs have made the value of the 75-cent exemption minimal. - By increasing that sales tax exemption to $1.00 we will ensure that consumers continue to have access to products through the convenience of vending machines as well as through over the counter sales. You will also help an industry and its many jobs. Click HERE to ask your state legislators to increase this sales tax exemption. We already have a draft email you can send. And, when you enter your zip code, we will even identify your state elected officials. It’s that easy. Will you take one minute, right now, to help increase the NY sales tax exemption?
